(4 November 2022; 1500 hours EDT)

Statement by Ambassador Ruchira Kamboj

Permanent Representative of India to the United Nations

Mr. President,

I would like to thank ASG Khaled Kiari for his briefing today.

2. We express concern at recent ballistic missile launches by the DPRK. We have noted reports of yet another launch of an Intercontinental Ballistic Missile by the DPRK on 2 November. These follow other launches last month following which the Security Council had met.

3. These launches constitute a violation of the resolutions of the Security Council relating to the DPRK. They affect the peace and security of the region and beyond.

4. India calls for full implementation of the relevant UN Security Council resolutions relating to DPRK.

5. At the same time, we would like to reiterate the importance of addressing the proliferation of nuclear and missile technologies related to DPRK in our region. Proliferation of nuclear and missile technologies is a matter of concern, and they have an adverse impact on peace and security in the region, including on India.

6. We reiterate our continued support for denuclearization towards peace and security in the Korean peninsula.

Mr. President,

7. Ensuring peace and security in the Korean Peninsula is in our collective interest. Going forward, we will continue to support dialogue and diplomacy as the means to resolve the issues in the Korean Peninsula.

I thank you.
