UNSC Open Briefing on ‘Sabotage leading to disruption in the Nord Stream Gas Pipeline’
[September 30 2022; 15:00 hrs]

Statement by Ambassador Ruchira Kamboj
Perman
ent Representative of India to the UN

Thank you Mr. President for giving me the floor. I thank USG Li Junhua for his briefing.

2.We are closely following developments with regard to the evolving situation.

3.We continue to urge relevant sides to exercise restraint and not engage in any activity which may disrupt peace and stability.

4.Any targeting of civilian infrastructure and facilities must be avoided. The present incidents have the potential to impact stability in Europe and beyond apart from negatively affecting the environment.

5.Since the beginning of the Ukraine conflict, the Global South has been disproportionately impacted by its consequences, including those relating to food, fuel and energy crisis. The present situation, if left unchecked, has the potential to further exacerbate this situation. We would support calls for an independent and objective investigation in this regard.

6.India strongly reiterates the need for an immediate cessation of all hostilities and a return to dialogue and diplomacy. We have consistently reiterated that the global order is anchored on international law, UN Charter and respect for territorial integrity and sovereignty of states.

Thank You!
