INDIA STATEMENT
Thank you Mr. President.
I would like to begin by thanking Under Secretary General Rosemary Dicarlo for presenting the Secretary-General’s report on the implementation of resolution 2231. I express my appreciation to Ambassador Geraldine and her team for their efforts in finalising a consensus report of the Facilitator. I thank Ambassador Olof Skoog, Head of the Delegation of the European Union in New York, for his briefing.
India supports the full and effective implementation of resolution 2231 and the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA). We have always maintained that all JCPOA related issues should be resolved peacefully through dialogue and diplomacy. We hope that diplomatic efforts underway on JCPOA will reach a satisfactory solution.
We value the efforts of the IAEA (International Atomic Energy Agency) and its Director General to implement the Agency’s verification and monitoring mandate. India also attaches importance to the Agency’s ability to provide assurance of the exclusively peaceful nature of Iran’s nuclear program. We take note of the recent reports of the Agency, which were also considered at the IAEA Board of Governors meeting recently. We urge Iran to cooperate constructively with the IAEA towards addressing all outstanding safeguards issues and the performance of verification and monitoring activities by the Agency.
I thank you, Mr. President.
