India Contributes USD Twelve Million to the India-UN Development Fund

 

The Government of India has contributed US Dollar Twelve million to the India-UN Development Partnership Fund. A cheque to this effect has been handed over by the Permanent Representative of India Ambassador Parvathaneni Harish to the UNDP Administrator Mr. Achim Steiner, today. 

2. The Fund was established in June 2017 with an initial capitalization of USD 1 million, and has rapidly scaled into a USD 150 million financing mechanism to support demand-driven projects in Small Island Development States (SIDS), Least Developed Countries (LDCs), Members of the Commonwealth of Nations, Landlocked Developing Countries (LLDCs) and partnering countries across the Global South. 

3. In line with its traditional ethos of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam meaning The World Is One Family, India extends its support and partnership under the ambit of India-UN Fund for capacity building, and development projects in various countries across the globe. 

4. With this tranche, India’s contribution to the India-UN Development Partnership Fund has cumulatively exceeded USD 87 million (including the interest earned). UNOSSC serves as the Fund Manager and Secretariat of the Fund.

5. Thus far, the Fund oversaw 85 projects in 57 countries being implemented.

6. The Permanent Mission of India to the United Nations shall stand ready to be associated with the aspirations and needs of the developing countries under the South-South Cooperation.
