Funding support to the Federal Republic of Somalia

As requested by the Government of the Federal Republic of Somalia, India will provide a grant of US$ 366,000 from the General Window of the India-UN Development Partnership Fund for the project, "Police elD for Somalia".

The project will strengthen the Police electronic Identification system by storing, managing PNR data of all police personnel in a centralised, environment and printing secure cards. This allows capturing demographic and biometric data, for effective user interface, with non-forgeable authentication to the police personnel, numbering about 10000. The project is likely to be completed in about four months. Once completed, the Somalia Police elD system will be in compliance with the global standards set out by ISO and other relevant agencies.

Partnering with the Federal Republic of Somalia in a project of national importance is a reflection of our deep rooted ties encompassing all spheres of relationship.

The India-UN Development Partnership Fund, established by Government of India in June 2017, provides support to projects in developing countries that aim to contribute to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals. The Fund adheres to the principles of South-South cooperation and places a priority on national ownership and leadership, equality, sustainability, development of local capacity and mutual benefit. A total of US$ 150 million has been committed by Government of India for this Fund.
