Gurudev, Mr. Miguel Moratinos, Fellow Ambassadors, Distinguished Guests, and Friends,

I am deeply honored to extend my warmest welcome to each and every one of you at this special event commemorating Peace, one of humanity's most cherished and profound values. I would like to express my sincere gratitude to Mr. Miguel Moratinos for graciously accepting our invitation.

2. In this pursuit of peace, we are fortunate to be joined by a truly extraordinary individual, a global humanitarian, and a spiritual luminary – Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar. His presence here serves as a beacon of hope, reminding us that the path to peace begins within each of us.

3. Sri Sri’s life has been dedicated to the noble cause of fostering harmony among individuals and nations alike. Through his tireless efforts, he and his ‘Art of Living’ Foundation have touched the lives of millions, transcending borders and cultural divides. His message of peace, compassion, and unity resonates deeply with our shared commitment to a better world.

4. It is also a happy coincidence that we are gathered here on the occasion of the International Day of Peace, observed annually on September 21st. This day serves as a poignant reminder of the paramount importance of promoting peace and resolving conflicts on a global scale. Established by the United Nations, it encourages individuals, communities, and nations to come together and work tirelessly toward a world free from violence and strife.

5. And Peace has always been a fundamental cornerstone of India's rich cultural and philosophical heritage. Throughout its history, India has embraced the ideals of non-violence, harmony, and co-existence. The teachings of great spiritual leaders like Mahatma Gandhi, a champion of non-violent resistance, have profoundly influenced the country's approach to conflict resolution.

Dear Colleagues,

6. Perhaps it is fitting that I pause here, allowing you to benefit from the profound wisdom of our Distinguished Guests. I would, however, like to emphasize that, as we engage in dialogues, negotiations, and resolutions within these hallowed halls, we must remember that peace is not an unattainable dream, but a reality we can achieve. It commences with our willingness to listen, understand, and empathize with one another. It begins with small acts of kindness and flourishes through shared values and common goals.

7. To this end, I invite each of us to embrace the teachings of Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar and strive for inner peace, for it is from within that we can build a more peaceful world. As we move forward in our collective mission, may we be inspired by the words of Mahatma Gandhi, who had said, "You must be the change you want to see in the world."

8. Thank you, and may peace guide our path.

9. I now have the honour to hand over the podium to the High Representative for the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations, Mr. Miguel Moratinos.
