Approved India Remarks

Thank you, Mr. Chair. I thank the briefers for their updates on the topic of today’s meeting.

2.    The cultural heritage represents the historical record and understanding of the entire spirit of a people and their civilization in terms of its values, actions, works, institutions, monuments and sites. To protect our cultural heritage is to also protect our common values.

3.    India remains deeply concerned over the ongoing situation in Ukraine. The conflict has resulted in loss of lives and countless miseries for its peoples, particularly for women, children and elderly, with millions becoming homeless and forced to take shelter in neighboring countries.

4.    We believe that no solution can be arrived at the cost of innocent lives.    From the beginning of the conflict in Ukraine, India has been consistently calling for complete cessation of all hostilities and advocated the path of dialogue and diplomacy. We support all diplomatic efforts to end the conflict, including through talks between Ukraine and the Russian Federation.

5.     It is in our collective interest to work constructively, both inside the United Nations and outside, towards seeking an early resolution to this conflict. We continue to reiterate that the global order is anchored on international law, UN Charter and respect for territorial integrity and sovereignty of states. I thank you.
